Great place to catch migrating birds in the spring and fall
Only an a$$-backwards moron (Ken) would even suggest draining what has become a rare and endangered type of habitat. Such places are invaluable not only to those of us bright enough to acknowledge their value, but also to wildlife as well.
I only live about 20 minutes from the Refuge. I spend a lot of time here and thoroughly enjoy it. In late fall and winter you are treated to so many eagles you can't seem to count them all. I have seen more than 80 in one day. Eagles will sit on the ice near open water to spook the migrating birds that stop here. You are liable to see white pelicans anytime. Some seem to stay year round now, but large flocks of pelicans and swans and all kinds of geese stopover here during the fall and spring migrations. Many of varieties of ducks, loons, grebes other water birds stop here too.
Coots seem to love this place. This winter even a few snow buntings stayed all winter. Its always an adventure, just relax and give some time once you get here.
Neat place. Lots of waterfowl to watch. And great place to see bald eagles
Beautiful wildlife mecca. To say it needs to be drained is like saying we need to finish off the great barrier reef.
